If you’d like some extra money for a beach vacation, there’s $500 available for the taking — all you have to do is find the Golden Seashell.

The large shell, painted an unmistakable golden hue, will be hidden somewhere in Richmond County by Daily Journal Publisher Rick Bacon.

“The last two contests were won too quickly,” said Bacon. “I’m going to hide this seashell somewhere so good this time, even I might not be able to find it again.”

Clues will be printed in the Daily Journal every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday during the last two weeks of June and the first two weeks of July. There will be 12 clues total.

To get the clues a day in advance, or to see past clues, check out the participating merchants who post them: Carolina Jewelry; Bowles Furniture; Mid Carolina’s Buildings; Carolina Upholstery; Cascades Tissue Group; Corner Cupboard; Murphy Chiropractic and Wellness; and Auto Carpet Pros.

Clues will not be posted online.

If the seashell is found before the tenth clue is printed, a second chance drawing for $100 will take place.

“I’ve been planning the perfect hiding spot for weeks,” said Bacon. “I’m making sure only the most clever detective is going to have a shot at finding this thing.”

So dust off your Sherlock cap, and get ready to start following the clues because the publisher is leaving nothing to chance this go-round.

“Usually I make some sort of statement at the beginning of the contest about the hidden object being in plain view,” said Bacon. “I’m not even going to promise that this time. People might have to move some foliage around to find this.”
