Dear Editor,

Donation boxes for clothing/shoes are being left at businesses in our county. The donations do not stay in Richmond County.

Local thrift shops such as Christian Closet, The Grab, Community Treasures and Outreach for Jesus rely on donations to provide inventory to sell.

Donating clothing/shoes and household items locally means you can receive documentation for taxes. Another benefit is a good supply of economical clothing/shoes and household goods for purchase. Thrift stores have rent, utilities and staff to pay. Declining revenue from declining donations could affect their ability to remain financially solvent.

Thrift shops are a triple win by (1) helping our budgets, (2) recycling things we need/use, and (3) helping support local charitable organizations.

Please donate locally.

Dear Friends-Please explain why the donations do not stay in this county.I pay almost have of my income to the state, federal and county taxes .This includes all taxes ,on cars, food, wahes, etc. This money goes to support thos who will not work and some that can not work. Many childern get free meals at school that others have to pay for. That means their parents do not have food at home .If they do ,then my tax money should not be feeding their children. Many of these same people work and drive around in cars much nicer than the one I drive .Any time you donate money for starving people in war torn countries, the rebels end up with the food and most of the children still go hungry.Watch the news ,mankind takes what he wants. The whole U.S.A.has a problem with hungry according to the national news. The best thing to do is look around your own county and feed the widows and the ophans. Now that is all I have to say about that, all of us know its the truth ,thanks to the Journal.

Elaine,

This is very well stated and I am glad you took the time to let our community know. These boxes showing up around town should not be allowed if they are not of benefit within our own community.
