The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested four men on various drug charges in connection with a residence in Ellerbe. Police charged Sidney Russell Currie, 59, of Sandy Ridge Church Road, Ellerbe, for trafficking in opium/heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance. Latavias Shanell Bennett, 29, of Parson Road, Lilesville, was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, and Christopher Maurice Tillman, 23, of W. Wall St., Wadesboro, and Terressa Faye Powel, 28, of Old Lilesville Road, Wadesboro, were charged with possession of methamphetamine, lawmen said.

According to police, the Sheriff’s Office and Rockingham Police Vice/Narcotics units conducted a search at 202 Sandy Ridge Church Road, south of Ellerbe, on June 5, 2012. During the search, officers seized methamphetamine, cocaine and items used to digest the drugs, which resulted in the arrest of the four individuals. All four were placed in Richmond County Jail. Currie was placed under a $100,000 secure bond, and a $5,000 bond was set for Bennett, Tillman and Powel.

In an unrelated case, Kevin Brooks McGill, 40, of Wilson Avenue, Rockingham, was arrested and charged with felony larceny and obtaining property by false pretenses. According to reports, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office arrested McGill on June 6, 2012, on warrants charging him with the larceny of assorted factory rims and a front bumper. Police said McGill later sold the stolen items at a local scrap yard. He was placed in the Richmond County Jail under a $5,000 secure bond.
