The Eighth District Convention was held Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Albemarle High School in Albemarle with nearly 400 delegates to conduct business and elect delegates to the Democratic National Convention, which will be held in Charlotte from Sept. 3 through 7 this year.
There were 85 persons running and only five delegates to be elected; among them, two women and three men.
Preston Waddell of Richmond County was elected with 80 percent of the voting delegates. He will represent the Eighth District, which includes Richmond County, at the Democratic National Convention in September.
