Crank to play in game

Richmond Raiders offensive lineman Charles Crank has been selected to play in the East-West All-star football game on July 16 in Greensboro.

Hamlet, Rockingham split

Jade Evans and Abbi Carpenter each scored 11 points to lead Hamlet Middle to a 33-32 victory over Rockingham Middle Monday afternoon.

Evans added 19 rebounds and five blocks for Hamlet (4-9).

In the boys game, Rockingham knocked off Hamlet 35-25.

Robert Williams scored six points for Hamlet (4-9) in the loss.

Rohanen sweeps Ellerbe

The Rohanen Middle School boys and girls basketball teams defeated Ellerbe Monday.

The Rebels (6-4) won 40-30 behind 16 points from Damien Brayboy. The Lady Rebels toppled the Lady Wildcats 43-27 as Kadijah Harrington scored a game-high 12 points.

Richmond finishes seventh in tourney

The Richmond wrestling team finished seventh in the Mid-Southeastern Conference wrestling tournament Saturday at Hoke County High School.

Individually for the Raiders, Wesley Mason at 140 pounds finished third and Travis Griffin at 112 came in fourth.

Jack Britt won the tournament title, picking up 164 points to edge out Douglas Byrd (161.5) and regular season champion Seventy-First (156.5).

Scotland finished fourth with 143.5 points, followed by Pinecrest (102.5), Hoke (50), Richmond (24) and Westover (24).

“This season was a learning experience for us,” Raiders coach Ken Neal said. “We had a lot of young kids, and we had to battle through some injuries. It would be beneficial if we could have a middle school program for these kids that would help them gain the basic skills and fundamentals.”

Ellerbe accepting registrations

The town of Ellerbe is now accepting registrations for baseball until March 20.

The cost is $30 and per child.

The leagues offered are: 4-5 T-Ball, 6-8 Pitching Machine, 9-10 Baseball, 11-12 Baseball.

The town will also offer softball and coaches for all leagues are needed.

Registrations can be dropped off at the town offices from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 652-6251 for more information.

Rockingham baseball,

softball signups on-going

The City of Rockingham Parks and Recreation is taking registrations for baseball and softball until March 2.

The fee for city residents is $35 and $45 for non-city residents. Participants must be 5-years-old and can not turn 15 on or before April 30 for baseball and 17 on or before Jan. 1 for softball.

The leagues are: 5-6 Shetland, 7-8 Pinto, 9-10 Mustang, 11-12 Bronco, 13-14 Pony.

New players must have a copy of their birth certificate at the time of registration. Call 895-6810 for more information.

Hamlet baseball registrations open

The City of Hamlet is accepting baseball registrations until March 20. Late registration will be from March 23-27.

The cost is $30 per child and a late fee of $10 will be charged per child during the late registration period.

Participants must be 5-years-old and can not turn 16 by April 30.

The leagues will be: 5-6 Rookie Pitching Machine; 7-8 Cal Ripken Pitching Machine; 9-10 Cal Ripken League; 11-12 Cal Ripken League; and 13-15 Babe Ruth League.

Registration will be at Hamlet City Hall from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on the above dates.

Track club sets date

The RCPacesetters Track Club will be accepting registrations Feb. 21 from 12 - 2 p.m. at the Leath Thomas Memorial Library in the Wall Room. The cost is $40 and a copy of the child’s birth certificate will be required at registration.

Boys and girls from 6 to 18 are eligible.

The first practice begins on March 16 at Richmond Senior High School at 5:30 p.m.
