The Humane Society of Richmond County is “jumping into June” with two adopt-a-thon events this weekend.
“We’re so excited to have enough volunteers to allow us to participate in two events on the same day,” said Allison Sweatt, outreach, foster care and rescue coordinator.
One group of volunteers will be participating in the June Bug Day event at The Derby Store. Music, dancing and “old-time” fun will be the theme at June Bug Day, and HSRC will be at the event doing on-site adoptions and providing information about the shelter’s low-cost spay/neuter clinics.
HSRC will be at June Bug Day from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Derby Store is located at 2205 Derby Road, in Ellerbe.
“We’ll have a raffle, and we’ll also be selling baked goods at the June Bug event,” said Sweatt.
Another group of volunteers will set up shop at Walmart, in Rockingham, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“I’m happy we’re able to take advantage of both opportunities to get out in the community on Saturday and help increase awareness about our shelter,” said Sweatt. “Of course, it’s the end of the fiscal year and we’re bare bones as always. Any donations we receive will be greatly appreciated.”
The shelter is also encouraging anyone who needs to drop off an animal to come during regular business hours.
“If we can keep track of what areas the animals are coming from, we will be able to keep better track of any areas of the county that are presenting sick animals,” said Sweatt. “If we can do that, we can inform areas of the community that may have outbreaks of disease.”
