Second Baptist Church in Hamlet was the setting for the December 27, 2008 wedding of Misty Joy Grooms and Jeremy Luke Graves, both of Hamlet. The 3 p.m. ceremony was conducted by Rev. Chris Hawks.

The bride is the daughter of Michael and Norma Grooms of Bennettsville, S.C. Her grandparents are the late Arch and Ethel Grooms of Hamlet, the late Norman Guinn of Marshville and the late Juanita Guinn of Hamlet. A 1996 graduate of Richmond Senior High School, she is a 2006 graduate of Richmond Community College with a business administration degree. She is employed as credit manager at Bobby’s Furniture in Hamlet.

The groom is the son of Louie and Linda Graves of Hamlet. His grandparents are the late Lewis and Audrey Graves and the late Ralph and Mary Quick, all of Hamlet. A 1993 graduate of Richmond Senior High School, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in 1998. He is employed by CSX Transportation of Hamlet.

Music for the ceremony was provided by Don Greene of Hamlet and soloists Jackie Webb and Darin Dixon, both of Hamlet.

The bride wore a white strapless matte satin gown with a corset back. The bodice was accented with embroidery, beading and swarovski crystals. The asymmetrical waist flowed into a side insert. Embroidery beading and swarovski crystals trimmed the train insert. Crystal beading outlined her white fingertip length veil. She carried a bouquet of red roses and miniature calla lilies.

Krista Grooms of Rockingham, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and Stacy Graves of Hamlet, sister-in-law of the groom, was matron of honor. They each wore a black chiffon halter-style dress that featured a satin waist and full knee-length skirt. Each carried a single calla lily.

The groom’s niece, Taylor Graves of Hamlet, was flower girl. She wore a white spaghetti strap dress with the bodice accented with embroidery, beading and swarovski crystals, similar to the bride’s gown.

Louie Graves of Hamlet, father of the groom, was best man.

Serving as groomsman was Jeff Graves of Hamlet, brother of the groom.

Brian McKinnon of Hamlet, cousin of the groom, was usher.

The groom’s nephew, Gavin Graves of Hamlet, was ring bearer.

A reception in the church fellowship hall followed the ceremony. A wedding trip is planned for a later date.

The couple’s new residence is in Hamlet.
