Three new staffers have joined the newsroom at the Richmond County Daily Journal.
Philip D. Brown joined the staff of the Richmond County Daily Journal as a reporter in early November. Shawn Stinson joined the staff in November as a page designer and Olivia Webb became a staff writer in January.
Brown is native of Lake Gaston, and father of two girls: Alexandria Alexis Brown, 14, and Mary Elizabeth Brown, 2.
He graduated from Appalachian State University in 2004 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a focus in Journalism.
He brings over five years of experience in print journalism with him to his new position, including stints with The Appalachian in Boone, a statewide publication called The Village Idiot and The Daily Herald in Roanoke Rapids.
Most recently, he covered entertainment for SH Newspapers, which operates The Littleton Observer and The Lake Gaston Magazine.
In addition, Brown has a background in education, after working in a contracted position with student support services at Halifax Community College from June 2007 to June 2008.
Before returning to the newspaper field, Stinson served as the executive producer of the Danny Fontana radio show in Charlotte.
The Louisville, Ky. native, previously worked as the sports editor at the Laurinburg Exchange, the New Albany (Ind.) Tribune and as a sports writer at the Kentucky New Era in Hopkinsville.
Stinson graduated from Queens College in Charlotte in 1992.
Webb is originally from Ellerbe.Webb graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2006. She moved to Manhattan shortly after that, and worked as a copywriter until she returned home in September.
The trio joins veterans Peter Williams, editor; Catherine Monk, lifestyle editor; Tom MacCallum, county government reporter and Corey Davis, sports writer.
