Dear Editor,
The editorial letter entitled “help wanted” April 28-29 was written by someone who is certainly in need of help.
Using incomplete data and venting frustrations through exaggerated attacks makes for some weak and inaccurate claims. On a county commissioner board of seven, it is impossible for any two individuals to be in charge.
Furthermore, why would two such individuals who supposedly have brought so much disaster to the county be so highly rated by the majority of the population?
As a member of the board of county commissioners, I have been a part of and have witnessed cooperative hard work aimed at doing what is best for the citizens of this county. What concerned citizens need to do to help secure the future for coming generations is to realize the importance of and promote quality education. Every child needs to get the most out of school from year one and extend this learning towards a working skill that will be needed for years to come.
Also, our future citizens need to be led into healthy living from early to form life-long habits of involvement in activities such as athletics, civil groups and regular church attendance.
Good jobs come to communities that have people who can fulfill the requirements. Richmond Community College continues to expand course offerings, insuring opportunities to gain employment skills to all citizens who take advantage of these invaluable opportunities.
Progress Energy has brought jobs and contributes taxes equivalent to that of 1,000 new homes which has prevented raising taxes. Positive growth in our county will be maximized by building on the strengths that we have, not by using fear, negativity and vicious divisive attacks on dedicated leaders.
Every citizen has the ability to help make our county better, why would anyone want to try to kill it with negativity?
