A television production company based in Los Angeles is looking for individuals or families who live “off the grid.”
Red Varden Studios is casting nationwide for a new reality series featuring people who live without reliance on public utilities, like electricity or water.
The company is searching the country for folks who have either found ways to create their own utilities, like through the use of solar power and wells, or said goodbye to such luxuries altogether.
“On camera experience is not required,” said Lo Brown, casting agent with the studio. “However, candidates must be comfortable in front of the camera, and interacting with others.”
Jane Bright, of Jackson Springs, N.C., has experienced life in front of a camera — she was on CBS’s hit show “Survivor: Nicaragua.”
“The first time I saw that show, I knew I wanted to be on it,” said Bright. “I applied 10 times.”
Bright said she was happy to be featured on a reality TV show because, “filming doesn’t last long, and it’s just a big adventure. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
The reality show contender admitted that it wasn’t always easy to forget about the ever-present camera crews.
“The cameras were always there, but once you get into something you’re doing or saying you can forget about them for a little while,” she said.
To be considered for this filming project, email photographs of the family, group or individual to producers at RVScasting@yahoo.com. Include in the email: descriptions and roles of each person; what city and state you live in; full contact information (name, phone number, email); and tell the story of how and why off-the-grid living is going on. Explain why the individual or group would be an interesting story for television.
Red Varden Studios is a television and film production company that develops and produces scripted and non-scripted (reality) content for studios, broadcast networks, cable networks, syndication and digital media outlets.
