U.S. Cellular and Alltel Wireless have joined together to begin offering U Prepaid, a no-contract wireless service, in select Walmart Stores.

The phones will be offered in the Rockingham location.

Depending on where customers live, the U Prepaid service will run on either U.S. Cellular’s high-speed national network or Alltel’s advanced coast-to-coast network.

Customers will be able to choose from a variety of plans and four phones: the Android-powered Samsung Repp is a touchscreen smartphone; the LG Attune/LG Exchange and LG Saber offer full QWERTY keyboards, and the Samsung Chrono provides the features and functionality for customers who prefer to use their phone for calling and texting.

The array of phones mentioned above does not seem to include any real options for seniors - which is what I'm looking for: A senior friendly cell phone, with an accompanying senior friendly (cheap) prepaid plan. As is current, there is but one nationwide choice regarding all the afore mentioned criterias, and that's Tracfone's SVC phone, and plan. I suggest that US Cellular, and Alltel would do well breaking into a market that isn't really been looked after by the possible wireless providers. At least there is an option at the moment, but could definitely do with some more - who knows; maybe tracfone's SVC can go cheaper in lieu of some competition.
