The victim told police he was headed for his room at the motel when he encountered two men wearing masks.
He told police he went into his room to lock the door, but the men got in.
One of the men grabbed him, he said, and the other pulled out a gun and told the victim he was going to shoot him.
The victim told police he pushed away from the suspects and ran. And the suspects ran away. Nothing was reported stolen.

Arrests by Rockingham police include:
n Ivan Stanley Covington, 44, Scaleybark Road, Rockingham, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of assault on a female, two counts of communicating threats and injury to personal property.
He was held in Richmond County Jail until a judge set bond.
The victim in this case called police two days earlier to report alleged threatening calls from Covington, a friend.
Later police received a call that she had been beaten.
n David Eugene Prevatte, 36, County Home Road, Rockingham, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of assault on a female. He was held in Richmond County Jail until a judge set bond.
A woman called police to say her friend had entered her motel room on South Hancock Street, Rockingham, and assaulted her.
n Sonja Diane Sanders, 42, Aslington Street, Rockingham, was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear in court on a charge of breaking into a coin-operated machine. Bond was set at $1,000.
n Rodney Eugene Sanders, 42, Aslington Street, Rockingham, was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear in court on felony charges of breaking and entering, and a probation violation. Bond was set at $10,000.
