Dear Editor,

To the pet owners of Richmond County:

Due to all the controversy concerning the Discounted Vaccine Event, I feel I must address this.

It has always been and continues to be the first priority of this practice to do what is best for my patients. We only give the three year vaccines as recommended by Dr. Richard Ford of the North Carolina Veterinary School because it is best for the animals.

Giving a one year vaccine without getting a booster vaccine in a month does not provide protective levels of antibodies against Parvo or Distemper.

For that reason and that reason only I declined to be a part of this event. I never made any attempt to cancel this event. I only said I would not participate.

This has become very political and as my clients know I am not a political vet. I feel I have been thrown under the bus in this and for that reason I have resigned as the veterinarian on record for the Humane Society of Richmond County. I have not been called by anyone, nor have I hung up on any person calling. I can speak for myself and am doing so now.

So, to my clients, if you have any questions concerning this matter, please know you can ask.

R.A. Souder, D.V.M.

Rockingham

Sounds to me like a prodcut of mis-communication. It is sad that assumption are made without a clear intent to follow-up on the issues. Dr. Souder doe not speak out of both side of his mouth. He is a straight talker. At the same time, the Human Society does exhibit a sincere level of intergrity. Both are good for this County. Let the issue settle, and hopefully both side can leran from this situation and try again soon. Dr. Souder, I do hope you reconsider your position as "county vet". Our animals need us all.
