The Hamlet Senior Center, located beside the Hamlet City Lake, is planning a day of events for Saturday to help raise funds for various activities.
“Danny (Hayes) will be donating his time and resources to set up a fish fry and sandwich sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.,” said Pete Wheeler, Senior Games coordinator.
Hayes owns the restaurant House of Fish, located in Broad Street Square, on Hwy. 74 W in Rockingham.
“The fish sandwiches will be $3 and all the proceeds are going to help us get new equipment for the Senior Games,” said Wheeler.
“My mother goes to the Hamlet Senior Center at least three times a week, so when they told me they’d like me to help out I was glad to donate my services,” said Hayes. “It’s my way of giving back to the community.”
A yard sale to benefit the Senior Center will also be held that day from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
“Everybody’s bringing stuff, I can’t even tell you what all we’ll have out there,” said Wheeler.
The Center will be hosting a bake sale during that time to benefit the Hamlet Shakers, the senior citizen cheer team.
“The Shakers are bringing all sorts of homemade baked goods — cakes, pies, cupcakes, brownies,” said Wheeler.
The public is invited to stop by and check out the sales.
