Claudia Virginia “Bobbie” Halliburton, 80, formerly of Raleigh, died peacefully at the Regency Retirement Village in Charlotte on Tuesday, April 17, 2012.

She was born on July 25, 1931 in Hamlet, NC to Georgia and Lynwood Halliburton. After her father’s death in 1939, she entered Oxford Orphanage in Oxford, NC, where she lived until she graduated from John Nichols High School in 1949. Despite the hardship of having to leave her family at age 8, Bobbie was raised in the Christian faith with love, sound guidance, friendship, and an excellent education. She remained deeply grateful her entire life to the orphanage and kept a close and abiding friendship with all those in her “Oxford family.”

Bobbie attended Pfeiffer Junior College (1949-1951) and graduated from East Carolina University in 1953 with a BS Degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Goldsboro, NC, Hollywood, Fla., and in Raleigh, NC for 32 years before retiring in 1985. After retirement she was a substitute teacher for 16 years. She was known as one of Raleigh’s finest teachers.

Bobbie was loving, generous, loyal and possessed remarkable perseverance throughout her life. She enjoyed music, knitting, her dogs, Oxford reunions, and time with family and friends, especially the celebrations for over 40 years with her “Raleigh family,” the Combs Group teachers. She was entirely devoted to her family, beloved as part of the family of her sister, Jeanne and brother-in-law Al Faires, and a second mother to her nieces. Bobbie’s humility and selfless nature endeared her to many people, her legacy of friendship being one of her greatest gifts.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at the Regency, especially those in Memory Care.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Lynwood Halliburton, Jr., and sisters Jeanne Halliburton Faires and Anna Lea Halliburton Davis.

She is survived by brother-in-law Alton Faires and wife, Jane; nieces, Aleanne Kennelly and husband, Kevin, Anne Barnes and husband, Clay, Margaret Morris and Eric Rodriguez, all of Charlotte. She is also survived by six great nieces and nephews - Kevin Kennelly, Jr. and wife, Lee, Brian Kennelly and wife, Tina, Ellen Barnes LeRoy, and husband Lem, Elizabeth Barnes and husband, Ross Cameron, Michael Morris and Lindsay Morris.

There will be a visitation and memorial service led by Dr. Clay Barnes on Friday, April 27, 2012, at 11:00 am at Harrington Funeral Home in Hamlet, NC, with burial at Mary Love Cemetery. Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory and The Cremation Society of the Carolinas are serving the family.

Memorials may be made to The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.

Online condolences may be made @harringtonfuneralhome.com
