On Sunday, March 25, 2012, George Dewey and Doris McRae of Hamlet were honored with a surprise celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary by their children, Jamie and Joyce McRae, Laurie and Scott Waters, and Dewey McRae, all of Hamlet.
The celebration was held at Marks Creek Presbyterian Church. Approximately 75 family members and friends attended the celebration, including the couple’s eight grandchildren. As the guests enjoyed lunch consisting of baked ziti, garlic bread, and salad, they were treated to a slideshow that recounted the couple’s 50 years together. After the celebration, the McRaes left for a 7 day trip to Fort Lauderdale and the Everglades.
The couple was married on March 24, 1962, in Bennettsville, S.C.
