Janet Jones Harris, 93, of 205 Fellowship Dr., Hamlet died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at her home. She was born April 3, 1918 in Northampton County, the only child of the late Emily and W. A. Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jim Harris in 1972.

Mrs. Harris retired from Ellerbe Lumber Co., as a bookkeeper in 1980. She was a charter member of Fellowship Methodist Church in Hamlet. She loved her church and served in many areas. She was the first President of the Woman’s Society, Financial Secretary, Church Treasurer, and leader of the Mary Martha Circle. Mrs. Harris helped organize the first Girl Scout Troop in Hamlet and was a past President of the Hamlet Junior Woman’s Club.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 23rd at Fellowship Methodist Church with Rev. Tony Joyner officiating. Interment will follow in Mary Love Cemetery. The family will receive friends at her residence.

Mrs. Harris is survived by a son, Bill Harris of Hampstead; a daughter, Betty Carter and husband Ernest of Hamlet; three grandchildren, James Harris and wife Sherri of Lillington, Renee Grzybowski of Bel Air, MD, and Annette Peck and husband Phil of High Point; five great grandchildren, Alex and Eric Grzybowski, Savannah and Mitchell Peck, and Andrew Harris.
