ROCKINGHAM — Nic Bullard struck out eight in five innings and allowed an unearned run as Richmond Senior remained unbeaten in Southeastern Conference play with a 6-1 win over Purnell Swett.

Ryan Mercer earned the save, ending a bases-loaded threat with the tying run at the plate in the sixth inning.

“We feel good about being undefeated in conference,” Richmond coach Ricky Young said. “Ryan came in and got us out of the jam. Two walks and an error and it’s a ballgame.”

Bradley Brown went 2-for-3 with a run batted in for the Raiders (8-2, 2-0). Jeremy Smith had a run-scoring triple, while James Buie added an RBI-double in the victory.

Purnell Swett (3-4, 0-2) scored its only run in the fifth without a hit. The Rams took advantage of a hit batter, a walk and an error.

The Raiders will return to action at 4 p.m. today at South View in a junior varsity/varsity doubleheader.

SOUTHERN PINES — The Pinecrest boys tennis team won five of the six singles matches to cruise to a 6-3 victory over Richmond Tuesday afternoon.

“We are ready for a win Thursday against Scotland,” Richmond coach Paula York said. “Losing is not as much fun as winning. We are looking forward to get back on track.”

Richmond (5-3, 2-2) travels to face Scotland at 4 p.m. Thursday.
