Johnny B. Covington Sr., of Rockingham, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Kingswood Nursing Center in Aberdeen.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Lamont Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Memorial Park Cemetery.

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home in Rockingham.

Mr. Covington was in the U.S. Army and worked for the Richmond County Daily Journal for 30 years as a Pressman Supervisor.

He is survived by his daughters, Gloria Ratliff of Rockingham and Mamie Legrand of Aberdeen; a son, Johnny Covington Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers, Thomas Covington of Wadesboro, Lawrence Moore of Rockingham and Eddie Moore of Rockingham; sisters, Lillie Washington of Rockingham, Evonne Moore of Rockingham, Patricia Holiday of Rockingham and Dorothy Moore of Rockingham; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
