Mr. Claude Alexander Spencer “Fats,” 69, of 7765 Vintage Road, Lilesville, died on Friday, March 9, 2012, at Anson Community Hospital in Wadesboro.

A funeral service was held on Monday, March 12 at 3 p.m. at Harvest Outreach Ministries, 1134 East Caswell St., Hwy 74 E., Wadesboro, with the Pastor Steve Adams and Pastor Robert Davis, Eulogist. Burial followed in the Henry Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Lilesville.

Mr. Spencer was born to the late Mr. James Crawford Spencer and Mrs. Ruth Harris Spencer.

He was a member of Womble Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church and Mount Pisgah A.M.E. Zion Church in Rockingham and later joined his home church, Henry Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Spencer was employed with the Wadesboro Police Department, Anson County Sheriff Department, a Bail Bondsman and Allen’s Security. In 2006, he was elected County Commissioner for Lilesville.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Allen Colson Spencer of the home; eight children, Deric Alexander Spencer of Lilesville, Sheila Annette Johnson of Lilesville, Kenneth Lynn Spencer of Wadesboro, Wanda Allen of Raleigh, Victoria Regina Robinson of Georgia, James Edward Colson Jr. of New London, Arnold Gene Colson of Norwood, and Keith Lamont Colson of Matthew; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gracie Potts of Rockingham and Margaret Levander of Baltimore, Md.; and one brother, James Thomas Spencer of Lilesville.

Nelson Funeral Service of Rockingham is serving the family.
