Betty Hamer Waters, 79, passed away on January 21, 2009. Betty, a lifelong resident of Rockingham, was the daughter of John F. Hamer and Bertha Tanner Hamer. She is survived by her husband, Ted Waters, Jr., her two daughters, Lydia Waters Hadden, and husband, James Hadden, of Rockingham, and Donna R. Waters of Royston, Ga. Betty is also survived by her grandson, Charles (Chuck) Yow and wife, Amanda, an two great-grandchildren, Travis and Kyleigh Yow; her brother, John F. Hamer, and wife, Martha; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Ina Kelly Waters, and nieces and nephews.

Known as “Bet” to her family and friends and “Da-Bet” to her grandchildren, she was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and best friend to her girls, and a devoted grandmother. Betty retired from Richmond County Schools as a teacher assistant and was a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church.

At the time of her death, Betty was a resident of Britthaven Nursing Home. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the many caregivers who assisted in her home and to the many dedicated nurses, certified nursing assistants, staff, and many others who worked at Britthaven.

The family will receive friends at Watson-King Funeral Home on January 22, 2009, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. and other times at her home, 394 Dockery Road, and the home of her daughter, Lydia Hadden, 201 Crestview Drive. Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend William S. Kearse at the Crestview Baptist Church on January 23, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow immediately at the Crestview Baptist Church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Crestview Baptist Church or the Crestview Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
