Mr. William “Howard” Smith, 67, of 203 Charlotte Street, Hamlet, died, Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at Sandhills Regional Medical Center, Hamlet.

He was born in Hamlet, May 23, 1944, son of Eddie Buster Smith and Annie Lucille Stricklin Smith.

Mr. Smith was previously employed as a Roadmaster for CSX Railroad where he worked from 1962-until he retired in 2002; a member of First Baptist Church, Hamlet, a veteran of the US Army, an Active member of the American Legion for over 35 years , served six years in The National Guard and graduated from Hamlet High School in 1962.

Visitation will be Friday, February 10, 2012, from 7:00-9:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Hamlet.

The Funeral will be Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Hamlet with Rev. Randy Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Memorial Park.

Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mildred Estelle Bean and Linda Kay Smith.

Survivors are his wife, Phyllis Campbelle Smith of the home; sons, John Howard Smith of Hamlet and Joseph Harold Sanders of the home; daughters, Sheri Lynn Weston of St. Cloud, Florida and Angela Dianne Sanders of Hamlet; brothers, Eddie Buster “E.B.” Smith of Clemmons and Henry Ray Smith of Hamlet; and two grandchildren, Corey Allan Weston and Alexandra Marie Weston of St. Cloud, Florida.
