ROCKINGHAM — Cheraw captured the final four matches, three by pinfall to rally for a 45-36 victory over Richmond Senior Wednesday night.
The loss was the first of the season for the Raiders and dropped the team to 2-1 overall.
Richmond jumped out to a 36-24 lead on the Braves after Jacob Staub pinned Campbell Jackson with 47 seconds left in the first period of the 170-pound match.
Cheraw started its comeback in the 182-pound contest, when Billy Thompson pinned Dion Spencer at the 1:02 mark of the first period. David Durant continued the streak with a pinfall victory over Deon Davis at 195 to tie the match at 36-all.
After Tyvon Leacock pinned Dillon King 54 seconds into their 220-pound contest, Cheraw’s Quintin Lewis clinched the victory by outlasting Antoine Crouch in a 12-6 decision.
The Raiders won six matches by pinfall against Cheraw. Besides Staub, also earning victories for Richmond were: Gary Blue at 106, Randy Altman at 126, Nelson Tate at 138, Corey Covington at 152 and Austin Lane at 160.
Richmond cruised to a 78-6 win over Marlboro County, S.C. in the nightcap. The Raiders won four matches by pinfall (Rodderick Evans at 120. Covington at 152, Lane at 160 and Crouch at 285). Richmond earned forfeit victories in the other weight divisions.
The Raiders are slated to return to the mats Saturday at Anson County.
