Tuesday’s municipal election numbers are in for Hoffman, Norman and Ellerbe.
In Hoffman, 29 voters out of 53 voted for permitting the “on-premise” and “off-premise” sale of unfortified wine, with 54 percent for and 45 percent against. For permitting the sale of mixed beverages in hotels, restaurants, private clubs, community theaters and convention centers, 60 percent voted for with 32 votes, and 39 percent voted against with 21 votes. This vote was needed to determine what kind of businesses Hoffman will welcome once the U.S. 1 Highway has been completed.
Jo Ann Jasper Thomas was re-elected to serve as mayor of Hoffman after running unopposed, garnering 40 votes. There were 4 write-in votes for mayor. For Town Council, incumbent Lee P. Butler was re-elected with 42 votes, or 21 percent, incumbent Tommy Hart was re-elected with 41 votes, or 20 percent of the vote, incumbent Rory Kevin Jones had 19 percent of the votes and was re-elected with 38 votes and Daniel Kelly, at 18 percent of the votes was re-elected to serve on the Hoffman Town Council with 36 votes. There were 40 write-in votes at 20 percent that the Board of Elections will announce at a later time, if enough people voted for the same person.
In Ellerbe, Olivia Webb was re-elected mayor for her second term after running unopposed, earning 74 votes.
John Sears Jr. was re-elected to Ellerbe’s Town Council with 66 votes, or 49 percent, and Jim Lane was elected to a seat on Town Council with 34 votes, or 25 percent. James “Buddy” Cooper received 62 votes, and has been elected to an unexpired term in a Town Council with 93 percent of the vote. The term expires in 2013.
In Norman, 100 percent of the voters elected Kenneth Broadway to his first term as mayor with 23 votes, after running unopposed.
Incumbent Stephen D. Cranford was re-elected to Norman Town Council with 21 votes, at 33 percent, and incumbent Cynthia Ingram was re-elected to Town Council with 20 votes, at 31 percent, and 22 voters wrote in names.
Provisions and write-ins will be tallied today by the Board of Elections and any significant numbers will be reported.
