Reverend Dr. Alexander McDonald Jr., 79, of 220 Wayman Chapel Road, Hamlet, died on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at Sandhills Regional Medical Center, Hamlet. He was born April 21, 1932, son of the late Alexander McDonald Sr. and Bessie Mae Medlin McDonald.
Public viewing will be held on Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Service, Rockingham.
Family visitation will be held on Friday Aug. 26, 2011, from 11 a.m. to noon and funeral services will begin at noon at Waymon Chapel Faith Center, Hamlet, with the Rev. Alexander McDonald III officiating. Burial will follow in the Waymon Chapel Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sallie B. McDonald of Hamlet; 11 children, Angela McDonald of Syracuse, N.Y., Patricia McClain of Chesapeake, Va., William H. McDonald of Florida, Rev. Dr. Alexander McDonald III of Parsippany, N.J., Charles McDonald of Syracuse, N.Y., Mary L. Veney of Virginia Beach, Va., Rena M. Chambers of Syracuse, N.Y., Carolyn McNeill, Nellie, Earl McNeill and Jessie McDonald, all of Hamlet; 31 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Nelson Funeral Service of Rockingham is in charge of the arrangements.
