The Women of the Moose are throwing a free “Back-to-School Bash” on Saturday, and inviting everyone to come “party like a Moose.”
From 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., community members are invited to the Moose Lodge, on Crow Run in Rockingham - across the street from Perdue.
D.J. Peppermint Patty will be spinning popular tunes, and shaggers will be in full swing to the beats.
Activities will include a “cake walk” for the kids, raffle drawings for backpacks full of school supplies and alarm clocks will be raffled off for the young sleepy-heads.
Kids interested in entering the “bicycle rodeo” should bring their bikes and helmets, and parents should bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on while the kids play.
A giant slide will be set up from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Vendors are going to set up shop inside the lodge, selling everything from jewelry to knives.
“The event is free, but any proceeds we raise from raffles and sales will be donated to The Women of the Moose,” said Joni Marley, past regent. “We use our funds to help support the handicapped children of Pence Place, in Rockingham, and other children’s and senior citizens’ programs.”
The Rockingham Police Dept. will be on hand to assist with fingerprinting kids for identification. The Hamlet Police Dept. and Cub Scouts will be joining in the fun, along with the Safe Kids organization.
The Humane Society of Richmond County will be in attendance from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., along with furry friends from the shelter that are ready for adoption.
“The shelter will be donating 10 percent of all contributions we receive at Saturday’s event to The Women of the Moose,” said Allison Sweatt, HSRC program coordinator. “We appreciate the support the community has given to us, and are happy to do what we can to help support the community in return.”
“It’s just a fun way for kids and their families to get out and spend the day together before school starts back,” said Marley. “We look forward to seeing everyone there!”
