Maxton - Kathryn McIntyre McQueen, 72, died on Saturday, July 30, 2011.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Randy Bishop. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
She is survived by three sons, Chesley T. McQueen III of Laurel Hill, Jesse McQueen and wife, Wanda of Hamlet, and Danny McQueen of Laurinburg; a daughter, Terry McQueen of Maxton; a brother, Murray Askew and wife, Paige of Longs, S.C.; a sister, Mary Stevens and husband, Bob of Garner and their daughter, Alex; four grandchildren, Kelly Caulder of Laurinburg, Jordan McQueen of Laurel Hill, Garrett McQueen and Brooks McQueen of Hamlet; one great-grandson, Ryley Norton of Laurinburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chesley Talmage McQueen Jr. and her sisters, Julia McQueen and Mary “Dibber” Adams.
Born July 10, 1939, in Scotland County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Julia Bracey McIntyre. Her father died at an early age, and her mother married James “Buddy” Askew, who along with her mother raised her. She was a long time teacher’s assistant at the R. B. Dean School in Maxton and following her retirement, she continued to do volunteer work at the school.
An active member of the First Presbyterian Church, she was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the Women of the Church.
Besides her family; especially her grandchildren and great grandson, she loved helping her late husband, Talmage, in their garden, cooking their harvest, and baking and decorating cakes.
