On Sunday, June 19, 2011, Father’s Day, William C. “Bill” Bowler was called home to be with the Lord. He was born on June 7, 1927, to Harden and Zella Parker Bowler in Spencer. He was the youngest of seven children.
Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years of the home, Barbara Kimmer Bowler; one son, William “Billy” Bowler and wife, Karen; one daughter, Sharon Caulder Gardner; and one grandchild, Eddie Caulder and wife, Cindy. He is also survived by step-grandchildren, Blaze and Torrey Lee Alexander; and John and Jeffrey Stogner.
He served five years in the U.S. Navy. Bill was on the U.S.S. Wisconsin BB-64 in Korea for two years as a machinist mate. He attended Spencer High School. Afterwards he was with Southern Railway in Spencer, he then transferred to CSX Hamlet Shop and later retired with 38 years of service.
Bill always enjoyed playing his harmonica, sitting on the porch with his loyal companion his dog, “Rosie” watching the Fords and Chevys passing by. He always was filled with humor and had a joke to tell.
A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Also those wishing to visit, there will be a visitation at his grandson’s home on Arlo’s Lane, Hamlet on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
