Dear Editor,

The veteran outpatient clinic is Hamlet will receive a six-passenger van to be used primarily to transport shut-ins or patients who are not able to get to their appointments from their place of residence to and from the VA Clinic in Hamlet. We can also transport veterans from the nursing homes to the clinic. This covers a three-county area: Anson, Richmond and Scotland. With this van, we will not be allowed to transport patients to the VA Hospital. the VA provides the gas and maintenance for the van. I need 8 to 10 volunteers with a good driving record to drive the van. The volunteers will need training from the VA Hospital in Fayetteville. Once the volunteers are in place, the van will stay at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic and will be available daily upon request of patients. With the help of Norma Fraser, the Fayetteville Chief Volunteer Service Officer, who has worked so diligently to provide this service to the Hamlet CBOC. As the VAS representative for AMVETS, I will try to coordinate this program. You may call me at 582-5825. Some 20,000 veterans in these three counties need your help. If you are a veteran or citizen and wish to support our veterans, please volunteer your time and help a vet.
