Rockingham has joined the local food initiative Sandhills Farm to Table, which promotes eating healthy and locally, supporting agriculture and our economy.
“The Rockingham community has really responded to Sandhills Farm to Table this last week,” said Fenton Wilkinson, co-founder. “There are over 40 subscribers translating into 23 boxes per week.”
To pick up the boxes of fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables, subscribers will need to go to the Gathering Site at First United Methodist Church on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.
“Sandhills Farm to Table is starting deliveries this week,” said Wilkinson. “We still will be accepting subscriptions even after the boxes start and price will be pro-rated to number of boxes actually received.”
“If you have a weekly produce subscription, your first pick up day will be April 20,” said Kelly Pritchard of Sandhills Farm to Table. “If you have a bi-weekly subscription, you have been assigned to ‘Week A’ which beings on April 20 or ‘Week B’ that begins on April 27.”
“You should have received an email letting you know which week your subscription begins. If you are still unsure of didn’t the get email, let me know and I’ll tell you when to begin. We don’t want you to miss your box!” said Pritchard.
Wilkinson said, “The community is getting engaged, the flow has started, but we need to encourage further growth from here.”
