Mrs. Mattie Ellis Gordon,73,404 Springhill Church Road, Hamlet, died, Sunday, April 17, 2011, at her residence.

She was born June 16, 1937, in Columbus County, daughter of James H. Ellis and Polly Ann Scoggins.

Mrs. Gordon was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy, Rockingham and previously worked as an instructor in textiles.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Harrington Funeral Home, from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Funeral will be Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at 2:00 pm at the Church of God of Prophecy, Rockingham, with Pastor Steven Gilmer and Pastor Nick Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Gordon’s Family Cemetery, Springhill Church Road.

Survivors include her husband, Jessie Gordon of the home; daughters, Virginia Miller of Hamlet, Carolyn Bernell of New York and Jessica Nicole Demercer of Hamlet; sons, Jessie Carlton “Carl” Gordon of Hamlet and James “Earl” Gordon of Hamlet; sister, Jimmie Jernigan of Rockingham; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Harrington Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Gordon Family.
