At No. 1 singles, Richmond’s Alex Auman defeated Tevin Evans, 6-1, 6-2; at No. 2, Richmond’s Jonathan Thames rallied to defeat Fabian Dietler, 2-6, 6-3, 10-8; at No. 3, Richmond’s Peter Christensen lost to Julian Capacetti, 5-7, 0-6; at No. 4, Richmond’s Ryan McInnis beat Kai Ford, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9; at No. 5, Richmond’s Ryan Hudson lost to Cody Munson, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 8-10; and at No. 6, Richmond’s Will Bradford defeated Michael Watson, 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.
At doubles, Richmond’s No. 1 team of Auman and Christensen topped South View’s Evans and Dietler, 8-4. Both other doubles matches were suspended.
Richmond returns to action today at 4 p.m. The Raiders will host Hoke County to open Southeastern Conference play.
Freshman Baseball
Richmond 8, Lumberton 2
The Richmond Ninth Grade Academy freshman baseball team opened the 2011 season Wednesday afternoon with am 8-2 win over Lumberton. A doubleheader of two five-inning games had been scheduled, but Lumberton forfeited the first one after arriving late.
Dominique Ingram started for the Raiders and threw four innings, striking out nine. Brad Dawkins mopped up in the fifth, striking out two.
Elijah Godwin and John Taylor were each 2-for-2 for Richmond.
The Raiders travel to Purnell Swett next Thursday.
