Alice Bassinger Scholl, 74, of Little River, S.C., passed away Mar. 6, 2011. She was born in Spencer to Alice Atwell Bassinger and Walter Bassinger, now deceased, and was the stepdaughter of John Lynn Maul, now deceased.

Alice is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jerry Lee Scholl of Little River; children, LeeAnn Scholl Floss and husband, Mark of Charleston, S.C., Bruce Scholl, of Greenville, S.C., Sandy Scholl Gasser and husband, Johnny of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Janet Maul Collins and husband,Craig; and grandchildren, Britney Scholl, Jennifer Floss, Brandy Scholl, Meghan Gasser, Caroline Gasser, Jonathan Floss, and Jake Gasser.

Alice was born Aug. 23, 1936, and grew up in Hamlet. Alice married her high school sweetheart and settled in Greenville, S.C. to raise her family and build a family business. She was an active and enthusiastic member of the Daughter’s of the Nile, Al Ansar 117, an avid quilter, a wonderful wife and mother, and a devoted grandmother.

Visitation will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Myrtle Beach Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cardinal Newman School, Columbia, S.C. or to St. John Neumann Catholic School, Columbia, S.C.

Myrtle Beach Funeral Home, located at 4505 Highway 17 Bypass South, Myrtle Beach S.C., is in charge of arrangements.
