Mildred Louise Flowers Smith Martin, 81, of Rockingham, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Britthaven of Hamlet.

Mrs. Martin was born Feb. 11, 1930 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Claude William and Ruth Putman Flowers. She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she had been pianist and a Sunday school teacher. She retired from the insurance department of Richmond Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lacy Jack Smith and Herman Benjamin Martin, as well as her brothers, James H. Flowers, Rev. Carl E. Flowers and Leon Flowers.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald W. and Phyllis L. Smith of Pembroke; grandsons, Ronald W. “Chip” Smith, Jr. of Charlotte, Jeffrey C. Smith of Rockingham; great-grandson, Avery R. Smith of Charlotte; and her sister Margaret Terry of Rockingham.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Harris Jordan and Rev. L.D. Driggers officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.

The family will see friends one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home and at other times at the Terry home, 440 Airport Road, Rockingham.
