HAMLET - Olivia Webb of Ellerbe has been named Executive Director of the Richmond Community College Foundation. The Foundation is the fundraising arm of the college and administers over 100 scholarships annually.

A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, Webb worked in New York City for two years as a copywriter with Gracious Home, a luxury home goods store. She returned to Richmond County and worked as a staff writer for the Richmond County Daily Journal. After leaving the newspaper, she accepted a position with the Episcopal Day School in Southern Pines. As their development coordinator, she oversaw their fundraising campaign, special events, and alumni activities.

Webb has a firsthand understanding of what a foundation means to students. She attended college on a scholarship awarded through a foundation. She remains in contact with representatives of the foundation and hopes to establish a similar rapport between RCC scholarship recipients and The RCC Foundation.

“I look forward to developing opportunities for students at RCC. I have a genuine love for our area and see RCC as one of the major pillars in our community, both as a cultural center and as an educational center. The college has a constant potential for growth. Strengthening the college strengthens the community as a whole,” she said.

Webb is committed to Richmond and Scotland counties. In 2009, she was elected as mayor of Ellerbe. She took office in the middle of a sewer expansion project and sought funding from federal, state, and county agencies to complete the project. Every penny had to accounted for and every component of the project had to be completed. Between this experience and her journalism background, she has a firm grasp of the duties that lie ahead of her.

“I love this type of work. Motivating people is what makes me happy and motivates me. If I have one principle to live by, I’d say it is ‘To whom much is given, much is expected.’ There is so much that can be accomplished. I know it will be rewarding,” she said.

RCC President Dr. Dale McInnis said Webb’s personality and proven people skills make her a great fit for the position.

“With Bill Council leading our planning, grant, and accreditation efforts, Olivia is the right person for this role. I know she will do a great job,” he said.
