Kelli Easterling has joined the staff of the Richmond County Daily Journal as a staff reporter.

Easterling grew up in Richmond County, then spent about a decade on the West Coast working in public relations for a movie studio. She returned to the County more than a year ago.

She graduated from Richmond Senior in 1997, and received her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from California State University, Long Beach.

Her parents are Billy and Karen Dunn, of Hamlet.

“Nothing could make me happier than finding someone from Richmond County, with a degree in Journalism, who wants to come work with us at the Journal,” said Rick Bacon, editor of the paper.

Easterling worked in public relations for Lionsgate Entertainment Corp., in Santa Monica, California, prior to accepting the position.

“I look forward to this opportunity to work in a different area of the journalism industry,” she said. “My experience has primarily been in public relations writing, so I definitely see this as a challenging and interesting position.”

Easterling has settled into life back in a small town, and seems to be embracing it.

“I’m excited about the prospect of becoming reacquainted with the community and its people,” she said. “Since my return to Richmond County, I have re-discovered the natural beauty of the area, some great local resources available to residents and have learned to appreciate the relaxed atmosphere here. I’m eager to share my perspective on Richmond County, in which I am very happy to be living once again.”

Staff Writer Kelli Easterling can be reached at (910) 997-3111 ext. 18, or by e-mail keasterling@yourdailyjournal.com.
