She was born Oct. 22, 1936, in Richmond County, daughter of John Lee Idol and Autan Phipps Idol.
Mrs. Chavis was a member of East Rockingham Free Will Baptist Church and she and her husband previously owned and operated Mickey’s Amoco.
A visitation will be held at East Rockingham Free Will Baptist Church, Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, from noon until 1 p.m. with a memorial service starting at 1 p.m. with Johnny Johnson and James Lylery officiating. Burial will be private.
She was preceded in death by her late parents; brothers, Glen Idol and Buddy Idol; and sisters, Helen Vowels and Patsy Cook.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence “Mickey” Chavis, Sr. of the home; daughter, Lorraine Jackson of Hamlet; sons, Lawrence “Nickey” Chavis, Jr. of Rockingham and Timothy Chavis; brothers, Tom Idol of Rockingham and Bobby Idol of Cummings, GA; sister, Betty Williamson of Swansboro; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mrs. Chavis’s memory to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N. US Hwy. 1, Rockingham, NC 28379 or East Rockingham Free Will Baptist Church, 189 Airport Road, Rockingham, NC 28379
