Hamlet assault victim is admitted to hospital

A Hamlet man was sent to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte following an assault at a house on Louis Breeden Boulevard, Hamlet police said.

The victim said three suspects assaulted him in the yard of a house during which one of the suspects fired a gun several times. The victim was not shot.

The victim received fractures to his head and other injuries. He was taken to Sandhills Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Charlotte.

Mackie Barfield Jr., 22, Jefferson Street, Hamlet, was arrested in connection with the incident on misdemeanor charges of assault inflicting serious injury, assault by pointing a gun and discharging a firearm in the city. His bond was set at $1,000.

Other arrests by Hamlet police include:

Joseph Jammal Cox, 20, Quail Hollow, Hamlet, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of two counts of injury to real property and two counts of injury to personal property. His bond was set at $1,500.

Dakota Ray Cummings, 18, Ghio Road, Hamlet, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of assault inflicting serious injury, assault by pointing a gun and discharging a firearm in the city. Bond was set at $2,500.

Eric Dean Young, 36, Champlain Street, Hamlet, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of assault on a female. He was held in Richmond County Jail until a judge set bond.

Wendy Marie Young, 34, Champlain Street, Hamlet, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of assault and battery, simple possession of Schedule IV controlled substances and Schedule II controlled substances. Bond was set at $10,000.

Herbert David Harris Jr., 42, Armstead Street, Rockingham, was arrested on felony charges of second-degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering, and breaking and entering. Bond was set at $100,000.

Shanieka Patterson, 26, Quail Hollow Drive, Hamlet, was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor larceny. Bond was set at $500.

Jerry Lee Johnson, 32, Henderson Street, Hamlet, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge ofd assault on a female. He was held in Richmond County Jail until a judge set bond.

John Willie Quick, 50, Rice Street, Hamlet, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

Robert H. Pruitt, 50, Homeplace Road, Rockingham, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of no vehicle operator’s license. Bond was set at $500.

Incidents reported to Hamlet police include:

A vehicle parked at a residence on Faires Drive, Hamlet, was broken into causing $150 damage to a window and the dashboard.

A teenage man was walking on Spring Street, Hamlet, when another man asked him if he could use his cell phone. When the victim handed him his $200 phone, the suspect ran away with it, the victim told police.

A check was stolen from a resident of Wilmington Street, Hamlet, and was used to obtain $1,900.

A chainsaw valued at $350 was stolen from a vehicle parked at a residence on Whistle Road, Hamlet.

On Spring Street, Hamlet, someone stole $25 worth of personal property from a house.

Tools valued at $1,468 were stolen from an outbuilding of a residence on Whistle Road. A lock was broken causing $20 damage.

On Beeler Avenue, Hamlet, someone did $680 damage to a vehicle parked at a residence.

On Battley Dairy Road, Hamlet, someone did $330 damage to a parked vehicle.

On Rollins Avenue, Hamlet, someone did $100 damage to the ignition switch of a vehicle parked at a residence there.

At Tall Pines Apartments, Hamlet, someone did $150 damage to a door of an apartment and stole $3 worth of change.

Someone threw parts of a broken planter through windows of two businesses on Hamlet Avenue, Hamlet, causing $700 damage to one and $600 damage to the other.

On Rice Street, Hamlet, someone did $12 damage to a lock and stole $784 worth of tools.

At an outbuilding of a residence on Alexander Drive, Hamlet, someone stole $425 worth of tools.

On Boyette Street, Hamlet, $216.95 worth of property was stolen, including a handgun, from a vehicle at a residence there.

Vehicle parts valued at $7,640 were stolen from property on Fourth Street, Hamlet. Damage to property was $100.

A window of a vehicle parked on Kampus Drive, Hamlet, was broken causing $50 damage.

An unknown value of jewelry was stolen from a house on Rice Street, Hamlet, and $150 damage done to a door.

Equipment valued at $210 was stolen from an outbuilding at a house on Rosedale Lane, Hamlet.

At a church on Henderson Street, Hamlet, someone did $245 damage to property and stole $50 worth of property.

Incidents reported to Rockingham police include:

n Grace Katherine Carver, 19, Havelock; and Ariel Marianna Allen, 17, Jackson Springs were each issued citations on charges of shoplifting at a store at Falling Creek PIaza Shopping Center.

A man told police he was sleeping at a house on Bush Street, Rockingham, when a suspect kicked him in the face and ribs. He was treated at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital for his injuries.
