A native of Richmond County, he was the son of the late Henry Thomas Allen and Vera Thomas Allen. Mr. Allen was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from then Sears and Roebuck.
He is survived by his wife Christine Turner Allen of Apex; daughter Joyce Westerman of Williamsburg, Va.; son James J. Allen of Raleigh; brothers Eugene Allen of Liberty, Ben Allen of Ellerbe, Bruce Allen and Steve Allen of Rockingham; sister Marice Covington of Rockingham; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, the late Thomas Allen of Rockingham and a grandson.
Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Apex United Methodist Church, 100 S. Hughes St., Apex, NC 27502. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Apex United Methodist Church or Amedisys Hospice Services, 220 New Fidelity Court, Garner, NC 27529.
