HAMLET — Police are encouraging drivers to lock their car doors as they investigate a string of vehicle break-ins.

Detective Lt. Heather Wyatt said Hamlet police have taken more than 10 car break-in reports during the past two weeks. A gun was taken from a car in one of the recent thefts.

“Most of the vehicles broken into were left unlocked,” Wyatt said in a statement. “We would like to remind people that they may want to lock their car doors and refrain from leaving things of value in their vehicles.”

Anyone with information on the car break-ins is asked to call the Hamlet Police Department at 910-582-2551.
