ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Earl Wendell Key, 86, of Rockingham passed away Nov. 8, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10 in the chapel at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham with the Rev. Russell Edwards and the Rev. Deborah Wilkins officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery in Ellerbe.

Born Aug. 26, 1931 in Ellerbe, he was a son of the late Marvin and Alice Lawrence Key, husband of the late Lydia Currie Key and was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Ann Key.

Earl was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, the former owner of Honda of Rockingham, an engineer with the Rockingham Fire Department, and a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.

He is survived by three sons, Earl Wendell Key Jr. of Southern Pines, Jonathan Dale Key and wife Leslie Talbert Key of Wilmington, and Christopher Ray Key of Goldsboro, two granddaughters, Laura Key Cline and Elizabeth Key.

The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday (tonight) at Watson-King Funeral Home.
