Jim Quick belts out a soulful tune with Albert Rogers on bass and backing vocals.

A little crowd participation is seen near the stage as audience members throw their hands in the air during "Beep Beep."

ROCKINGHAM — People packed Cole Plaza Thursday evening to hear the music of Jim Quick and Coastline.

Quick, a Scotland County native, gave shoutouts to local towns Hamlet, Ellerbe and Gibson during the band’s set of “swamp soul” — a mixture of Southern rock, country, soul, blues and jazz.

The most active members of the audience were those sitting closest to the stage, clapping their hands and swaying back and forth to the music.

The concert was the second of the season for the Plaza Jam series, which is in its 12th year.

The Rick Strickland Band will perform July 2.
