ROCKINGHAM — A man is facing domestic violence charges for allegedly slapping a woman and stealing her phone.
Police arrested 28-year-old Justin Chase Cagle of Russell Drive early Sunday morning, after an arrest warrant was issued accusing him of hitting a woman in the face and mouth with an open hand and grabbing her legs and thighs.
The warrant also states that Cagle took the woman’s Samsung Galaxy cellphone, valued at $150.
Cagle was charged with misdemeanor counts of assault on a female and larceny and booked into the Richmond County Jail on a 48-hour domestic violence hold.
In March, Cagle was charged with a misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly hitting a woman in the face with a beer can.
At that time, he was also facing charges of misdemeanor larceny and first-degree trespassing, but none of the previous charges appear on the online court calendar.
Cagle was sentenced to 30 months’ probation after being convicted of felony obtaining property by false pretense and misdemeanor larceny Feb. 16 in Richmond County, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.
He served a six-month prison sentence in 2013 on Richmond County convictions of driving while impaired, speeding to elude arrest, resisting an officer and larceny.
Cagle has a criminal record dating back to 2004, with past convictions including maintaining a place for a controlled substance, assault on a female, possession of Schedule IV drugs and drug paraphernalia, simple assault and impaired driving.
