Hyatt

ROCKINGHAM — Police say a woman punched, kicked, slapped and scratched an officer who questioned her after receiving a trespassing complaint.

Sharon Grant Hyatt, 46, of 264 Cabel Drive, is accused of attacking Officer D.R. Morton of the Rockingham Police Department late Wednesday night. Morton approached Hyatt at a home on the 100 block of Biltmore Drive where she allegedly was trespassing.

Hyatt assaulted the officer by “scratching him, punching him in the face, slapping him and kicking him,” according to a warrant for her arrest. She is also accused of refusing to give her name, pulling away from Morton and refusing to follow instructions when he placed her under arrest.

Police charged Hyatt early Thursday with two counts of resisting a public officer and one count each of misdemeanor assault on a government official or employee and second-degree trespassing.

Hyatt was released from prison in January 2010 after serving a 10-month sentence when her probation on a 2007 conviction of larceny after breaking and entering was revoked.

She has previously been convicted on misdemeanor and felony counts of breaking and entering as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting a public officer and larceny of more than $200.

Hyatt was released from the Richmond County Detention Center on Thursday after posting a $10,000 secured bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on the charges June 4.
