Softball league to open Saturday
Opening Day for the Hot Mamas Softball League is set for Saturday at Parsons Field in Ellerbe. Each team will play two games. The contests are set to begin at 9 a.m. and will begin continuously until 1 p.m. on both the upper and lower fields. The league will have 13 teams and regular-season play will start 6 p.m. Monday at Parsons Field.
Church league softball tournament under way
The Richmond County Church League softball tournament started Thursday night at East Rockingham Park. The 10-team, double-elimination tournament will continue Monday evening. The championship is scheduled for Thursday. Outreach for Jesus won the regular-season title and Jefferson Park Free Will Baptist finished second.
Baseball camp slated for RSHS
The annual Richmond Senior Baseball Camp for children 6 to 12 years old is scheduled for Monday through Wednesday. The cost is $60 per child and includes a T-shirt. Each session will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Campers are responsible for bringing their own equipment — shoes, gloves and bats. The camp will be run by members of the Richmond baseball coaching staff as well as current and former players. Rohanen hoops camp scheduled
The annual Rohanen Middle School Basketball Camp for boys and girls 5 to 16 years of age is set for Monday through June 19 at the school. The hours are 8 a.m. to noon each day. Frank Harrington will head the camp. Participants will be instructed on improving their skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting. There will also be a hot shot competition. RSHS basketball camp scheduled
The Richmond Senior girls basketball camp is slated for Tuesday through Thursday in the school’s gymnasium. The cost is $30 per child and includes a T-shirt. Applications will be accepted at the door. If enrolling two members from the same family, the cost is $55. The camp is open for girls entering fourth to eighth grade. Each session will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Awards will be given to best free-throw shooter, “hot shot” and team champs. The camp will be directed by Richmond girls coach Victoria DeFrate and will be aided by boys assistant coach Donald Pettigrew. RSHS volleyball workouts to begin

Soccer camp set for Richmond
The 15th annual Richmond Senior Soccer Camp will be held from June 22 to 25 on the practice field. The camp is open to children from 5 to 18 years of age. The cost is $65, which includes a T-shirt. Richmond to hold volleyball camp
The annual Richmond Senior Volleyball Camp is set for July 28 and 29. The camp is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon each day in Raider Gymnasium. The camp is open to girls that will be entering fifth through eighth grade this fall. The cost is $30 and includes a T-shirt. Campers should bring a water bottle and knee pads each day. Forms are available at the high school and Browder Park. Cheer camp set for Richmond
The Richmond Senior High School Cheerleading Camp is scheduled for July 13 to 16 in the school’s gymnasium. Each session runs from 8 a.m. to noon each day. The camp is open to children from 4 years old to high school students. The cost is $65 per child and includes a T-shirt. It is $120 for two children from the same family or $165 for three. Soccer signups to continue in Hamlet
Youth soccer registration for the city of Hamlet Parks and Recreation Department will continue until July 24 and a late registration period will be held July 27 to 31. The cost is $30 per child and $40 during the late registration period. Signups will be accepted at Hamlet City Hall from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Swimming lessons set for Rockingham
The city of Rockingham Parks and Recreation Department will continue accepting applications for its youth swimming lessons. The cost is $40 per session and a discount is available for a family that registers two or more children. There will be three sessions and children will be divided by age group (4 to 6 and 7 and older). The first session is scheduled to begin Monday and continue through June 26, the second will run from July 6 to 17 and the final classes are set for July 20 to 31. Rockingham accepting summer camp signups
The city of Rockingham Parks and Recreation Department will continue to take signups for its Summer Day Camp programs. The cost is the camp is $65 per week with an additional $6 for insurance for the first week of camp. A deposit is required at the time of registration.
