ROCKINGHAM — Although the Showcase of Champions tournament was cut short, the Lady Tigers made the most of their appearance at Tabernacle Christian School.

The Temple Christian girls basketball team traveled to Monroe on Thursday and took care of business against last season’s 1A NCCHSA runner-up Woodlands Baptist Academy (Winston-Salem). Both Mary and Rachel Smith recorded double-doubles in a 63-23 win, which helped the the team remain undefeated on the season.

Mary Smith scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Rachel stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and five assists. Their sister, Anna, also had a solid outing with her 10-point, seven-rebound performance Thursday evening. Junior forward Laura Richmond finished with 10 rebounds and sophomore center Raven Spencer added eight caroms to go along with her six points.

The Lady Tigers (5-0, 2-0 CCAA) were scheduled to play versus Tabernacle Christian — the defending 1A state champions — but the game was cancelled due to Friday’s weather.

All Temple teams, junior varsity and varsity, will be back in action Tuesday at Liberty Christian Academy in Fayetteville.
