FAYETTEVILLE — With its win over Seventy-First on Tuesday, the Richmond volleyball team is one win away from its goal: going undefeated in the regular season.

Outside hitters Altman Griffin, senior, and Savannah Lampley, junior, came through for the Lady Raiders with their double-digit statiscal efforts on the offensive and defensive sides of the net, respectively. Griffin had a team-high 13 kills and Lampley finished with a team-high 13 digs in the team’s 3-0 victory (25-13, 25-12, 25-8) on the home court of the Lady Falcons.

“Winning tonight’s game puts us one step closer to having an undefeated season,” head coach Shellie Wimpey said.

Tuesday’s win was the 15th time this season that the Lady Raiders were able to win a match in just three sets. They got better as the match progressed, with their best defensive performance taking place in the middle set (14 digs and two blocks).

The two second-set blocks were courtesy of Griffin and senior middle hitter Owen Bowers.

Bowers had the second-most kills on the night (6) and also recorded two digs and an ace, Griffin had four digs and an ace in the victory and Lampley added three aces and a kill.

Senior setter Mackenzie Webb finished with 25 assists to go along with her one kill and one dig. Sophomore defensive specialist Layne Maultsby had five digs, senior middle hitter Brianna Baysek recorded four kills and a dig, sophomore right-side hitter Allexis Swiney tallied two kills, one ace, one block and one dig, and her sophomore counterpart Jadyn Johnson chipped in two digs.

Richmond (21-0, 13-0 SAC) has a chance to finish the regular season without a loss when it hosts Scotland on Senior Night this Thursday. Baysek, Bowers, Griffin, Webb, middle hitter Amia Pemberton and right-side hitter Laini Wright will be the six seniors honored during the pre-game ceremony.

“We’re ready for Thursday’s game,” Wimpey added.
