Monday’s in-county showdown between the Hamlet and Rockingham Middle School volleyball teams will be a clash of two teams who blanked their respective opponents this past week.
The Lady Red Rams of Hamlet downed Ellerbe on Tuesday and then took down Cordova in a doubleheader on Thursday — despite one of their captains, Kaitlyn Huff, suffering an injury during the match.
Quston Leviner led the way for Hamlet with 15 aces and a kill. Ellie Buck added nine aces and two kills, Katie Way finished with seven aces, Erial Norton chipped in six aces and Kiersten Gibson had five aces.
“I am very impressed with how aggressive the girls played,” head coach Alex Gardner said. “They seemed more comfortable on the court today, and the way they followed the ball to the net and went for more attacks showed me how great their potential really is.”
As for the Lady Rockets of Rockingham, they defeated Anson-Orange for the second time in three days Thursday afternoon. They won the first match (25-2, 25-14) and the second match (25-17, 25-7) in two sets.
E. J. Davis finished with a team-high 33 points, Allyiah Swiney recorded 24 points, Kenleigh Frye added 16 points and Joy Styles chipped in 11. Catherine Dennis, Madison Jenkins and Miccah Wall combined for 16 points.
Both teams will be looking to grab another victory when they meet up Monday afternoon. That match begins at 4 p.m.
