Jones, Isaac named to Shrine Bowl

ROCKINGHAM — Richmond Senior football players Steven Jones and Carl Isaac were selected to participate in the 80th annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas which is to take place Saturday, Dec. 17, in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Both seniors, who just wrapped up their careers as a Raider this past Friday, will be playing on the defensive side of the ball. Isaac will be on the defensive line and Jones will line up as a defensive back.

“We’re extremely excited as a staff and a school to have two guys from Richmond County to represent us in Shrine Bowl,” coach Mike Castellano said.

Isaac, who is still receiving college interest, had 40 tackles and a sack prior to last week’s game at Garner. Jones, who also saw time as a wideout, is considering scholarship offers from Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Hampton and Western Carolina.

Raiders take down Gray’s Creek

RAEFORD — Last Wednesday, Nov. 23, the Richmond Senior wrestling team was able to edge out Gray’s Creek (42-40) for a win at Hoke County High School.

The Raiders started off with a win due to a forfeit in the 126-weight class, but five consecutive wins gave the Bears a comfortable lead.

Josh Feldman’s win over Leo Walsh gave Richmond some momentum, as it won six of the next eight matches — with Gabriel Zenteno’s pin in the 120-weight class sealing the deal.

Next up for the wrestling team is a matchup at Anson on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
