Raiders wrap up season

HOPE MILLS — The Richmond Senior boys and girls cross country teams finished up their season in the 4A Regionals last Saturday, Oct. 29, at South View. The girls team finished 14th, while the boys placed 15th.

In the girls race, Aieral Brown (22:57) and Harmony Jones (23:20) came in 78th and 85th, respectively. For the boys, Zachariah Hamilton placed 31st with a time of 17:29 and Joseph Nicholson placed 83rd withh a time of 19:01.

“Both teams had a great season,” coach Reggie Miller said. “I’m proud of their hard work, determination and commitment to cross country this season.”

Ellerbe stays undefeated

LAURINGBURG — The Ellerbe Middle School boys cross country team stayed on course for an undefeated season, after earning its third-straight victory last Thursday, Oct. 27, at Spring Hill Middle School.

The Wildcats scored a meet-best 25 points, as they held off second place Carver Middle School (36 points).

Ellerbe’s Tyler King placed third overall, followed by River Meacham (5th), Brycen Goodwin (6th), Cale Luckey (11th), Johan Chavez (13th) and Cody Troxler (28th).

Basketball registration now open

HAMLET — Registration for Hamlet’s basketball league is now open and will run until Friday, Dec. 2. Those interested in playing must turn five years old before April 30, 2017 and cannot turn 16 before April 30, 2017.

There is a $35 fee per child, as sign-ups will be held at Hamlet City Hall from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The per-child fee will increase $10 during late registration — which runs from Monday, Dec. 5 until Monday, Dec. 12.
